A leader in the gig economy, Postmates has a community of more than 350,000 freelance couriers who make on-demand deliveries in 3,500 cities.
The gig economy provides an opportunity to earn supplemental income in the event of an unexpected expense and in the case of many Postmates—while searching for their dream job all without sacrificing financial security. To meet the needs of workers earning while on-the-job search, the San Francisco-based company champions the creation of career mobility opportunities and protections for gig workers.
Claire Sands, director of fleet community communications and engagement at Postmates, is leading the company’s effort to upskill its workers and help them find new career opportunities beyond their Postmates delivery gigs. Led by Sands, this effort is starting in cities where Postmates has strong market penetration, and the company plans to roll it out more robustly in the coming year.
Watch Claire share her story in a video we captured at JFF’s Impact Employer Summit, an invitation-only event in New York City in October 2019. At the event, corporate HR and CSR leaders explored how companies are simultaneously investing in their workforces and their businesses—and seeing impressive economic returns as a result.
