Statement from JFF CEO Maria Flynn on Google’s Expansion of the IT Support Training Program

October 3, 2019

DALLAS — JFF CEO Maria Flynn joined Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump, Dallas County Community College District Chancellor Joe May, and El Centro College President Jose Adames to announce the expansion of Google’s IT Support Professional Certificate to 100 community colleges nationwide.

This builds on the work led by JFF to bring innovative solutions to the public sector in close partnership with community college leaders and serves as Google’s contribution toward its Pledge to America’s Workers. Flynn released the following statement regarding the expansion of the IT certificate program and collaboration with Google:

“There is a massive opportunity and imperative to increase access to economic mobility in a technology-driven economy. The IT certificate initiative reflects Google’s understanding of the transformative role that community colleges across the nation can play in this shift. In just 18 months, 85,000 people have enrolled in this program, and that number will significantly grow as we move toward 100 institutions nationally. Google tapped JFF to lead this work because of our trusted working relationships across the community college ecosystem, our work with leading Fortune 100 companies, and our deep understanding of the innovation landscape that is transforming how education is delivered as we head into the next decade. We’re grateful for the spotlight that Mr. Pichai and Ms. Trump have put on the great work that JFF does day in and day out. It’s a visible example of the role that our organization is increasingly asked to play in shaping our nation’s education and workforce practices.”
